TASK 5. CONCLUSIONS
Luis Felipe Arias’s conclusions of the video
Children's Literature in Translation: Working with translated books in the classroom.
From the questions and the answer above, it is easy to infer, we should give our children the chance to learn not only everything that has to do with their culture, but also what is related other cultures around the world.
Literature is enormously big, it is a way people express what they know, how they feel and how they understand the world. Literature is a way people experiment and creates alternative realities, which in some cases are far away from what our reality is, but in some others are quite close. However, something that is remarkable is the capability those stories teach us key messages to apply in our lives.
Teaching our students, there is much more outside what they know, that there are differences and similarities among cultures will help them to develop positive feelings towards others, to accept the difference, to realize there is more than one way to understand the situations and the world we live in.
Esther Trelles’s conclusions of the video:
Theories of directional equivalence in translation
The process of translating words of a text from one language into another, must be careful that express the correct meaning of the source language, so the persons that will receive the information can have an idea of what the author real mean and understand everything that the author wants its readers to know, as if is not a translation (illusory translations) Jiří Levý.
According to this video for this process, exist some ways to translate the corrects meanings, for example, formal equivalence, with this the translator could translate literally, its mean, find the words in the target language that have exactly the same meaning as the source ones; another is the dynamic with this the translator could interpreter and translate according to this, with this the translator can base to the target language’s culture, but as is relating before, is necessary not to lose the original meaning and/or what the author wants to express.
General conclusions
As future teachers, we must keep in mind the importance of role of translation in the language learning acquisition, since when it is used appropriately, it may help students to develop certain skills which will make learning English an effortless experience specially for those students who are at the initial stages of this process or who want to make a living by working as translators since this industry close to reach the 40 billion US in the upcoming years making translation a really promising career. So, translation may become a terrific and useful field for both beginners and advanced English learners.
However, it is important to remember that we should then ask ourselves some questions to make sure translation is being used well, therefore, we must think of when, how, why is translation suitable in the English learning process in order to achieve the syllabus learning goals.
We cannot say translation is either good or bad, those characteristics are given depending on the way translation is used inside the classrooms. When translation is correctly used, it likely offers students an easier way for getting language knowledge, it also gives students the possibility to broaden their understanding by learning from the cultural similarities and differences, and last but not least, it gives students the chance makes good money by choosing one of the most promising professions.
